"Very enjoyable close to lots of attractions"
Really nice hotel very central close to the railway station and close to the castle . Lovely breakfast very nice staff. Really enjoyed our break
"Nice location shame about the rest. Buyer beware."
The hotel location is great as a base for exploring Edinburgh on foot. But that's the only redeeming feature of our stay, unfortunately. I cannot comment on the food at the hotel - we explored the restaurants in the city instead. 1. The room. The room was grubby. It had not been cleaned - probably not in a long time, given it was full of dead flies and enough dust build up to effect my throat. Drink rings and hairs on surfaces from previous occupants. Stains on furniture. Could not open window or turn air conditioning temperature down from 19 deg C. Bathroom extractor fan stuck in 'on' position, whirred away noisily 24/7. 2. Desk staff. Rude - best summed up as a 'take it or leave it, we're doing you a favour' attitude. She said she knew the window was broken and handy man 'off', so nothing could be fixed. Would not move us to a different room, even though rooms must have been available (I got as far as payment screen for a new room on their website). We were told to ask the manager in the morning as he'd be able to move us. But same story and same attitude in the morning from a man claiming to be the manager. He said he had a small room without windows in the basement (but although a downgrade, no refund of the rate difference). Then bizarrely he tried to say I was raising my voice, so I guess he must have been preparing a narrative for his boss in case I complained. Given the GBP 320 per night rate, I expect a good clean room and customer service befitting a hotel - what I got was a grubby room with malfunctioning features and the customer service I would expect from a fast food server. I travel and use Premier Inn a lot, but after this experience, I cannot guarantee the quality of franchise consistency. I'll probably stay with another hotel chain.
"Great place to stay in Edinburgh"
Excellent hotel in easy walking distance of all the main sights. Tram stops close by which is a big plus. Great staff, very clean & comfortable room. A great choice for a short stay in Edinburgh.
"Excellent location"
We are very well traveled and quite picky on hotels. This hotel staff was incredible and the location was amazing. The beds were firm, the pillows soft, the bathroom vanity had ample space, and there was an extra vanity in the bedroom. The room was quite small but that’s common for Europe. We had enough room to open our large luggage and 2 carry ons. The AC was also great!
"Very dissapointed."
Stayed here for 2 nights, on arrival was greeted by the staff which was very pleasant, given our card keys and made way to our room, spacious room with the view of the castle which was a bonus, when settling into the room we noticed the wallpaper coming away gouges out of the wall painted over, walls could do with a paint and certainly a good dusting in there, went into the bathroom and seen that there was a huge amount of dust on top of the shower pipe, finger prints all over the doors, and also found someone else's socks down behind the settee so that shows it's not checked when cleaning, in house needs to be addressed about the cleaning. Panels coming away from bath and again skirting boards needs painting, the whole place could do with a revamp and bringing back to life. At a cost of £721 for 2 nights which i do find well over priced and for that cost and that reason i would definitely want to stay in a room that was spotless and decorated to a very good standard. On a positive the breakfast in the Bar & Block is lovely and plenty of it, we was greeted by Paul front of house who was friendly, polite and very professional really nice guy, staff is pleasant, friendly and again professional highly recommend the evening meal there aswel, we had steak best steak ever, but best book a table as they get really busy.
